I thought it couldn't get any worse, but the Instagram website, specifically the direct messaging chats list, has gone even further down the accessibility toilet. As of now, my screen reader cannot see chats that I know exist. Particularly frustrating as fellow students and student groups use Instagram direct messaging religiously.

I need to read #German #Braille, and have configured #JAWS with two braille profiles: English and German. However, JAWS does not render the capital letter indicator (dots 4-6) when in the German profile, even though the “Suppress Capital Signs” checkbox within the “Profile details” dialog for the German profile is not checked. I’m a mod of r/blind, and it's been an exhausting couple of months. #Blind users--and #disabled users in general--have essentially been deplatformed from Reddit, and Reddit still is not prioritizing #a11y.

Looking for an iTunes alternative.

I can't stand iTunes. I tried looking for alternatives that would basically allow me to mount my iPhone like a drive, but I couldn't find any accessible ones, so I am hoping you all have any suggestions. I'm looking for things that would allow me to transfer media and pictures from/to my phone without Itunes. Not sure how hashtags work on Lemmy but here we go!

Heyah, #BlindMastodon / #BlindFedi hivemind. Does anyone know how the #accessibility / #a11y of #calckey stands right now? Its features look promising and I'm becoming interested as I read more, but I'd rather not jump into a place where there's not good #ScreenReader accessibility and #KeyboardNavigation yet either from the web UI or from third-party apps. Just opened my #Mastodon home timeline only to find 3 consecutive posts with no #AltText. One of my favorite things about Mastodon and the #Fediverse is the culture of #inclusion for everyone, and a huge part of ensuring inclusion for #Blind and #VisuallyImpaired users simply requires that sighted posters describe images they post. Es ist eine gute Idee, #HashTags mit zusammengesetzten Wörtern in #CamelCase mit #CapitalizedWords zu posten, also jedes Wort grossgeschrieben, auch am Anfang.

Dazu #Abkürzungen vermeiden, wenn sie nicht eindeutig und allgemein bekannt sind.

So sind sie für Nutzer von #Screenreadern, #TalkBack und ähnlichen #Assistenzsystemen, wie sie #blinde #Menschen nutzen, wohl am besten hörbar.

As suggested by @komin in German: should we adopt a universal hashtag for blind people asking about Mastodon and the Fediverse? Does #BlindFedi sound like a good idea? My expansion of this idea would be to use the hashtag for all purposes: to exchange advice and good practices, ask questions, get answers, inform about the cool accessible tech or indispensable lifehacks and everyday tips as we discover them, to simply find each other across instances. Maybe this does exist already?
