In 2005 former (or current according to himself) World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer was granted an Icelandic citizenship.

I was inspired by an episode of #BehindTheBastards about Fischer which explained much about his antisemitic views but left open the question why Icelanders wanted him after all that had gone before. This episode tries to answer that question.

In 1986 The United States House of Representatives passed:

> H.J.Res.545 - A joint resolution recognizing Bobby Fisher as the official World Chess Champion.

This is over ten years after Fischer forfeited the title after making numerous ludicrous demands (in 1972 he got away with such behavior).

If I understand this correctly, this was sent to the Senate where it died a quiet death, meaning that it was never a "joint" resolution.
