Who is Jerusalem?

"Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her, That her warfare is ended, That her iniquity is pardoned; For she has received from the LORD's hand Double for all her sins" (Isaiah 40:2).

The word comfort in this passage speaks of teaching truth. It is the word ‘al’. According to the Ancient Hebrew Lexicon Bible, it is written using the Hebrew letters ayin and lamed, which means to “experience the staff,” or to see the teaching. Jerusalem, in the book of Revelation is called “the bride, the lamb's wife” (ref Rev 21:19). So Jerusalem is not just a place, but a people, specifically the body of Christ.

When it is written “speak comfort to Jerusalem,” it is really speaking of the deeper understanding of the Word coming to the Church.
