Ik zocht cocolechi om mee naar huis te nemen: cocos-suikerbrokken. De panaderia die ik het eerst bezocht, had het niet.
Er tegenover was wel dit prachtige huis. Na het maken van mijn foto vertelde de (zoon van de?) uitbater van de bakkerij dat het huis binnenkort in een speelfilm te zien is: Mamadu. Het huis is van zijn tante. En hij figureert in de film met zijn motor.

Vooraan, bij de beach zitten de duurdere appartementen. Als je dan goedkoop zit, zoals wij, zie je veel resortgangers omdat je dan veel heen en weer loopt.
Meest opvallend is de familie met de nanny. Het kerngezin, en de wederzijdse schoonouders, ze kijken allemaal even pischagerijnig. Elke keer. Alsof er iemand overleden is, in plaats van blij te zijn dat je lekker uit eten gaat.
De nanny ziet er nog het meest neutraal uit.
Op een zeker moment maakt geld niet gelukkiger!

Ondanks de hitte kreeg ik kippenvel. Tentjes van baksteen om tot slaaf gemaakten te laten slapen bij de zoutpannen op Bonaire. Ver van enige verlichting: schaduw, water of gewoon, iets anders dan de eindeloosheid zien.
Harde wind, intense zon, zout overal en dan alleen zo'n overkapping om je spullen op te bergen en te kunnen slapen zodat je de volgende dag weer verder zout kan scheppen.
De ruimte tussen de hutjes lijkt om opstand te voorkomen.

Op de drie Nederlands-Caraïbische eilanden, Aruba, Bonaire en Curaçao, wordt een eigen creoolse taal gesproken, het Papiamentu (of Papiamento). Sinds de jaren rond de afschaffing van de slavernij, in 1863, worden ook de eerste teksten in deze taal gepubliceerd. Daartoe behoren verhalen, romans, gedichten, essays, pamfletten, liederen, dialogen en toneelteksten, die met weidse uitleg als 'literatuur' werden of worden aangeduid. Hierin staat centraal hoe de bewoners van de eilanden naar zichzelf, elkaar, hun belaste verleden en naar buitenstaanders uit de westerse wereld keken en kijken. Deze teksten zijn daarmee een weerspiegeling van de sentimenten en ideologieën in de eilandsamenlevingen van Aruba, Bonaire en Curaçao.

We went to #Bonaire last April. We are going to #Roatan, #AnthonysKeyResort the first week of December. I am sooo ready to be diving again.

@scubadiver #Bonaire is our favorite place to dive in the Caribbean. We try to go once a year. After going for 12 years, we discovered #EastCoastDivers last year and have used them twice. They take you to more advanced dives on the wild side of the island. It’s like diving on a different island. You see countless turtles, rays, etc. After diving, we eat at gorgeous #LacBay and watch the #KiteSurfing. The views are out of this world. 🥰

@Addicted2Diving which dive site is that? Been a few years, we loved #Bonaire. Longest ever single tank dive at Windsock, almost 2 hours, and I played limbo with a trumpet fish for about 25 minutes of that! Was trying to get a picture of it's head, every time I breathed out it moved down too, then when I went to leave it moved back up and we started our game again. And again. And ... #scubadiving
