Their study published in 2016 found that 72% of Americans had read a book the preceding year, a number that rose to 75% in 2022. This increase is likely attributed to the pandemic and how much more time everyone was spending at home. That same 2016 publication showed that on average, Americans read 12 books a year."

This is my first Musil and I have to say I'm smitten. I love his precise, deliberate prose and the playfulness of each story but then, of course, they can devastate with the exactness of a scalpel. "Flypaper", a musing on flies trapped until death was particularly annihilatory, if at first amusing.
I guess this means his multipart tome, A Man Without Consequences, stays on my TBR.
