Staff in the #HomeOffice will not “just sit back and take” the Rwanda deal and new small boats bill, and may strike if forced to implement measures they believe are unlawful.
The Public and Commercial Services (#PCS) union, which represents almost 16,000 staff across different Home Office departments and #BorderForce, said they were buckling under “constant downwards political pressure”, “intolerable” working conditions and fear of being forced to break the law.

Passengers at UK airports today faced long delays as Border Force officers walked out in the latest of a string of strikes by public sector workers over pay.
The action follows stoppages this week by nurses and ambulance workers, angered by the government's refusal to increase pay following years of wage stagnation and a cost-of-living crisis that has seen inflation running at nearly 11%.

This is inhumane, and no one should be under any illusions that this is a recent occurrence. When I applied for my student visa in Kenya over 20 years ago, I had to go to the consulate in Nairobi for an interview... it was a harsh experience. The manner in which students from emerging markets are treated even when they have all their paperwork in order is demeaning. So many have reconsidered studying here because of this.

Exactly right. If we wish to deter illegal migrants, at the very least stop providing a free taxi service to our shores!
There is only one solution to this problem. Robust border management.
RT @Iromg: Any chance the #BorderForce and #Police could go on strike and stop helping illegal landings on our shores? #Migrants
