Due to massive cuts to services many of our libraries are volunteer run and suspect they can't afford the hike in fees.

I’ve seen a few posts over the last couple of weeks about how to get away from the #Amazon environment. Many #mastodon users are likely already people who have fled from one evil empire or another. ;-)

I too have been trying to remove myself from Amazons ecosystem as much as possible over the last year, especially since a lot of my reading was done via #Audible and #Kindle and my reviews through #Goodreads

Almost all the books Amazon Kindle has as well, plus that one especially nice feature that Kobo devices have #OverDrive built right in — allowing you to check out free library #ebooks directly from your device.

It always feels so strange when you go from one style of book to another. Was particularly strong between these two. One is a crime story set in victorian? Scotland and the other one in modern America (Los Angeles and New Orleans) and very gritty. Both the second in a series. Both audiobooks from the free borrowbox app.

About to finish "girl on the 88 bus" by Freya Sampson and am really liking it. I listened to Freya's other book "the library" (both of these are available on the borrowbox app) a while back and enjoyed it so much i thought i'd give this one a go. Love stories aren't normally my thing but I am glad I did try them.
I am also wondering if there is a hashtag for visually impaired people who might want to know about good audiobooks?

Finished Samantha Power's memoir (borrowed from the library through the borrow box app) "The education of an idealist" and I thought it was very interesting. You get an insight into the wheeling and dealing that goes on in international diplomacy, how and why certain foreign policy decisions were made by the Obama administration.

It doesn't include my long reading list on BorrowBox, the many paperbooks which are as yet unread, or all the books I'll inevitably buy next year because I 'need' them

Nor does it include all the #Audible books as yet not listened to, or the audio books I've saved in #BorrowBox

I am becoming concerned that I'm going to run out of life before I run out of #books...
