ā#Brigidās fire is not that of the sunā, Ali Isaac writes. āSome say it is the fire of the forge, for she was thought to be gifted with the working of metal. Happy #Imbolc!
This is my #TarotCardoftheDay. It immediately made me think of #Brigid, which felt very affirming. I woke up feeling very positive, inspired, which I have felt probably since March 13, 2020 (remember that day? I will never forget it). I had some great conversations yesterday that were exciting, interesting, about our work. Itās the end of the day, Iām feeling very tired. And a bit sluggish as my lunchtime āfeastā for Imbolc consisted of mostly cheese. But still very good.
This Queen of Wands encourages me to move through any difficult situations bravely and boldly, but reminds me to not trample anyone as I do. We can be direct without being hurtful.

Happy #Imbolc! Here in the Frontenac Arch, we are far from seeing any spring flowers. It will be weeks before our endangered Black Rat Snakes emerge from hibernation to mark the new season. However, there have been some beautiful frost flowers recently as we head toward a deep freeze polar vortex of -30C temperatures in the next few days. On these cold, wintry days we thank #Brigid for warming our hearth!

Please join us to welcome and celebrate the first stirrings of new life; as winter starts to give way to spring.
It's a particularly exciting time for us, as it's the start of the first whole year's cycle in our garden.
We will also be drawing from some Celtic customs that celebrate Bridghe's Day at this time of the year; making Bridghe's Crosses, braiding sweetgrass, and of course a good feast! #Imbolc #Bridghe #Brigid #UnexpectedGarden

I canāt remember when I made this, but itās older than my college sophomore. Which means it has been blessed by St. Brigid at least 20 times, placed outside on many a January 31st in anticipation of her visit. Even a few times on a cold fire escape in Buffalo. Happy Imbolc! Many criticize following the Wheel of the Year, saying that it only represents a very small weather region around the world. But I think it is adaptable to where you live. For folks in the lower hemisphere, they have always flipped the meanings and did it their way.
If the Wheel doesn't resonate with you, then by all means, forget about it. But for the rest of us, adapting the rituals, food, and celebrations to what is actually happening in the wild space you occupy can make it relevant and enjoyable.
Imbolc is almost upon us. For my place in Canada, it occurs right after we have been tricked by January thaw into starting yard work and planning our gardens. Then, winter returns almost like clock work with plunging cold and more snow. But for me, Imbolc is like a faint promise of hope, the crisper sunshine, the longer evenings where the chickens daringly hold out to the last possible moment of dusk light before grudgingly turning into the safety of their coop.
Any lambs born this week in my area would have a very hard time of it, no doubt. But our cellars and still rooms have honey, dried herbs, cheese, and canned goods from the sunshine of the previous summer. These all combine into luscious foods to celebrate the affirmation of the return of the sun and growth already started deep in the earth.
So, I am making some quiche, planting some seeds and lighting some candles.

#FolkloreThursday: #Brigid founded the first convent in #Ireland on #CroghanHill.
Brigid`s sister (part of the triple goddess) #Begoibne had her smithy workshop beneath this hill and built beautiful cauldrons. St Brigid was said to have been born nearby and to have performed a miracle there so that she could cross the bogs which surround the hill.
