What a boat trip yesterday from #Brixham, #Devon. Skipper Dave on 'Kelly's Hero' did us proud; the wildlife was phenomenal - Great, Manx, Sooty and Balearic #Shearwater; Great, Arctic and Pomarine #Skua; Storm Petrel; Short-beaked Common #Dolphin; Harbour Porpoise; Grey Seal amongst all the 'usual' Gull species.

I could not resist another trip out into Lyme Bay this morning aboard 'Kelly's Hero' and am I glad I went. As well as good views of Manx and Balearic Shearwater, at one point there were eight - EIGHT - European Storm Petrel near the boat. Utterly fantastic!!! A sight that will stay with me for a long time.

91 followers · 499 posts · Server mas.toAnother fabulous trip out into Lyme Bay on Kelly's Hero. Setting out from #Brixham, #Devon there were two Purple Sandpiper on the harbour wall. The next highlight were high numbers of Gannet - most of them appeared to be this year's youngsters - and many, many Common Dolphin. A real treat. Finally, a Storm Petrel passed the boat several times giving us all excellent views of this diminutive seabird.
Watch out for the adult and calf breaching at about twenty seconds...

23/7: I spent the morning on the sea - another trip on 'Kelly's Hero'. We spotted an early returning Purple Sandpiper and Mediterranean Gull before we'd left #Brixham Harbour.
Short-beaked Common Dolphin, Harbour Porpoise, Manx Shearwater, Gannet, Kittiwake, Fulmar were the highlights out in Lyme Bay.

Back to Berry Head, Brixham this morning as an Alpine Swift was reported there yesterday. After a bit of a wait, the bird was seen. I watched it fly about below us and then out to sea. Along with the Swift, plenty of Razorbill, Gannet and Gulls as well as Short-beaked Common Dolphin. Another birding memory made!

If you ever get the chance to go out with Dave on Kellys' Hero (from #Brixham), take it. This morning's three hour trip around Lyme Bay had good weather, great company and some fine wildlife. Bottnose Dolphin, Harbour Porpoise, Grey Seal, Purple Sandpiper, Great Northern Diver and a pair of Peregrine. Three hours well spent.
