Canada should require buildings in areas vulnerable to forest fires to be built more fire-resistant. For instance, we should ban asphaltic shingles in those areas.

(Steel roofs may be cheaper on a lifecycle basis anyway.)

Another act of desperate deflection. Everyone knows how seriously fire marshalls & building inspectors take code violations. If we could put beds in unused commercial office space, we could solve the homeless problem tomorrow. Perhaps the fact that we can't is a reflection on the rigidity of our own regulations...? Regardless, this is an obvious no-no as Elmo continues to dig the hole deeper for himself.

I see that California brought in a 2008 #fire #BuildingCode , discussed summarily at https://www.sacbee.com/news/california/fires/article227665284.html

The article only says #FireResistant building materials are required, and clearing away of material around houses. Apparently wooden shingle roofs are banned -- hard to believe anyone would even consider using them in areas vulnerable to wild fire.
