At the Northeast Building Science Symposium in Stratford, CT. In the very very unlikely event that any of you are here, lemme know! #BuildingScience #BS_and_Beer
Got pretty heavily into #BuildingScience earlier this year, and a neat hack I read about that pertains to this cold snap — if building a house, doubling up the drywall inside gives you more mass, so a more stable temperature even when outdoor temperatures fluctuate wildly. BS* nerds call it the “thermal time constant” of a building. Higher cost, higher embodied energy, but saves money over the long run.

Whole building air leakage testing in Washington State became required via the energy code - but there are significant benefits to testing buildings beyond just energy efficiency.

We've all heard "The greenest building is the one that is already built."
To that I'd like to add:
"The perfect building is the one that is never built."
Platonic idealism eventually meets construction realism.
