Exploring the catalog of #BurtBacharach on the occasion of his death this week, I've been legitimately shocked at how many great songs I know only from the background music of my youth were actually written by him. Thinking a lot this week about #BurtBacharach (#RIP), and especially how you can take two similar songs of his like "What The World Needs Now" and "Arthur's Theme" but see that one is perceived as "clever '60s Beatlesesque pop" and the other as "cheesy '80s adult contemporary" (maybe it's the wailing sax). Then again, even an actual Beatle like Paul McCartney had his music perceived this way in these years too. #RIP to one of the all-time greats, #BurtBacharach, who my fellow Generation Xers and I only discovered in the '90s through such modern-adjacent musicians as Ben Folds. An interesting thing I learned in his obit is that one of his first professional experiences as was the music director for the road show Marlene Dietrich toured internationally with during 1958 and '59. Una cosa bellissima.
D'altro canto il Maestro ha scritto canzoni che sono nella storia della musica "pop."
Se ne va un compositore sopraffino e grande musicista.
