“We need to see a universal fixed 30 km/h zone in all urban areas...There need to be red light cameras, better traffic cameras and better enforcement of our road safety laws... Our reliance on cars is terrible and there needs to be much better public transport infrastructure. #BusConnects needs to be urgently delivered and the All Island Rail Review.” - Dr Colm Byrne, Irish Doctors for the Environment

Well done to @DublinCommuters for forcing the NTA's hand on this issue.

"Camera surveillance of bus lanes, cycle paths and junctions needed, says National Transport Authority"
"We are mired in status quo bias...why can't we have nice things?" - Dr Sean Owens, Active Travel Coalition and member of Irish Doctors for the Environment looking for greater urgency in the delivery of #BusConnects
"Once you leave your property line, that space in front of your house isn’t yours.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve parked there or driven there for twenty years. It belongs to the public and ought to be used in a way that will bring the most benefits to the public.
Bus Connects is slowly opening people’s eyes to the fact that living in a city requires trade-offs. It’s a pity they weren’t informed earlier."

Good to see the Active Travel Coalition's press release earned them a spot on Drivetime. Of course, for balance, we also got to hear from opponents of #BusConnects.
“It will always be a challenge to move from the status quo and get people out of cars but there are huge health benefits and environmental benefits. We need to stop delaying these big public transport measures because everyone benefits as long as it’s made accessible, safe and affordable for everyone.” - Mark Murphy, advocacy officer with the Irish Heart Foundation, one of the members of the Active Travel Coalition

And another plan. Anyone with a "COMMUNITY NOT CORRIDOR" notice in their window should be visited at random and asked the names of the four neighbours on each side (everyone in the house) and the nine neighbours across the road (ditto), and if they can't answer, the notice should be torn up in front of them. And if they've concreted over their driveway, they should be handed a high-viz vest, a pickaxe and shovel and seeds and made to dig it up and plant it #BusConnects

Thankfully the anti-bus gate banner has now been removed from the front of Rathmines Church. #BusConnects
The Rathmines Initiative is hosting a series of public information meetings on the Templeogue/Rathfarnham to City Centre #BusConnects Corridor this Thursday 15th June and Friday 16th June @ 7.30pm at Leinster Cricket Club.

Good to hear John Fitzgerald unequivocally supporting #BusConnects on the Brendan O'Connor Show. He's wrong about the census increase in cycling being "only kids" though. The number of people cycling to work is at its highest level since 1986.

#BusConnects objectors are furious at the plans to take out trees. The solution is actually simple: take away all on-road parking along every BusConnects route
Trying to piece together the #BusConnects Core Bus Corridor Route from Rathfarnham/Templeogue to the City Centre. I think we're going to need a bigger table!

I've written to Fr O'Sullivan offering to meet with him to discuss the detail of the #BusConnects Core Bus Corridor proposal for Rathmines and the impact that it will have on access to the church. I really think that his parishioners have nothing to fear from this.
“I want my kids to be able to cycle safely; I want my kids to be able to get the bus and to be independent, in the way I was independent when I was their age."

Excuse my language, but there's a massive f**king car park right beside the church - what is this guy talking about?

#BusConnectsCork has extended it's deadline until midnight tonight.
If you were ever annoyed about a bus being late, a ghost bus, a car parked in a cycle lane, or even as a driver wishing traffic wasn't as bad and that non motorists had their own dedicated lane then now's your chance to support #BusConnects in #cork
It takes 2 minutes to register.
Here is the submission page:

You only need a sentence or two really to show your support.
Let's make Cork better 💪

It was encouraging to hear some supportive voices for the project. People who realise that we need to reduce car-dependency and that #BusConnects is a huge step towards achieving that.
Cllr James Geoghegan tells us that Mountpleasant Avenue will be "cut in two" and access won't be possible from one side to the other.
I think he means car access. Cycling and walking access will be unchanged, in fact they will be much safer and more attractive routes to walk and cycle on.
I'm attending an online public meeting on #BusConnects Rathfarnham/Templeogue to City Centre route hosted by Fine Gael.
We're currently getting an introduction to the Templeogue section of the route from Senator Mary Seery Kearney who is giving a run through of the route as you might experience it from behind the wheel of a car.
She's talking about "your options being limited" but doesn't mention the option of taking the bus or, heaven forbid, cycling.
