Stop Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services Denying Support For Autistic Kids
CAMHS misdiagnosed my Autistic burnout and it endangered my safety
For anyone who has been following my writing recently, you will be aware that there is an ongoing campaign regarding the failings of Child and Adolescent Mental health Services (CAMHS).

Important article from @rtenews: Parents' perspectives on seeking help for their young person in Ireland, including the work of the wonderful Dr Darรกine Murphy, who I've had the privilege of working with in UCD. With so much discussion of #CAMHS in the news at the moment, this is a must read. Parents and young people need more support!

'I lost out on a good eight years of my life'
"Ricky*, who is 20, was under the care of N Kerry #CAMHS for around 8 years.
Ricky is #autistic and, when he was still in primary school, he began to suffer with severe anxiety.
Ricky's care also involved treatment with a variety of psychotropic medications. These are drugs that alter mood, emotions and behaviour".

@Mirmulcahy Found you via the #Camhs tag and just wanted to say hi as a parent who went through those challenges with a daughter (now diagnosed ADHD & ASD). We were lucky she had a brilliant teacher at the point her struggles were most evident and she got support early in life. 6 years later there is plenty that is challenging (expectations of levels of independence for post-16 education for one). Happy to connect and chat if it helps
So first post on a micro blogging site as I'm never sure I have much to say of interest to others. What I probably need to talk about for my interests are #TTRPGs; parenting neurodiverse children #CAMHS and the inter-relationship between the two ๐. #introduction

@rdiscombobulate to clarify, we got the ASD diagnosis privately last summer (a loan from family) and the ADHD diagnosis with #camhs in March but all CAMHS offer is meds. nothing else. So we need CDNT
One thing Iโm really going to miss from the other place were all the parents I found like me, going through the maze of #CAMHS (ok the nightmare) waiting for a diagnosis for their possibly #autistic #neurodiverse kid / mineโs a girl /so anyone out there in the same nightmare situation / v close to complete school refusal / Iโm here for the chats. Or the comments. Or the coping ideas. Or even the coffees to compare notes! Oh yeah and same applies to #singleparents yes we do everything and we rock

Must do my #DBT homework tomorrow, even if I'm not up at #CAMHS with the eldest this week.
And I need to have a gander at this #Mindfulness journal, too.
And clean the house. Always cleaning the house.
Went to CAMHS with the eldest. It's the part of their #DBT course that parents have to attend as well. Went to the shops when we were on our way back, so I've bought six new (to me. They all came from charity shops for a pound at most) books. Eight, if you count the ones I bought for the child.
But I did it in a very mindful way.

95% of GPs surveyed reported mental health care for children and teens in UK is 'in crisis' or 'inadequate'. I work in adult mental health care but I think this assessment of CAMHS is accurate.
When will it get better? When society demands it, is willing to fund it, elects a government able and willing to deliver it.
Currently, NHS is being run down to increase public perception of failure of the service. Which will make it easier to introduce US-style healthcare-for-profit.
