Back in 2020, there was a huge wave of hype about how #Cas9 #CRISPR was gonna revolutionize testing

and those of us, like me, with some actual experience with test development , said
maybe

and of course after all that hype, pfui

so next time someone tells you how they are gonna replace some cheap well understood tech with new unproven tech, be suspicious

Simplicity is better
I'm at home, with covid, so doing a lot of home testing
the lateral flow (rapid antigen test) is cheap, easy, doesn't generate to much plastic waste, and gives an semi quantitative answer - for the last 2 days, my + result is clearly much weaker

The fancy home molecular test generates huge amounts of plastic waste & gives a yes/no answer, so one doesn't know if one is changing

PS: what happened to all those VC hype claims about Cas9 tests ?

I have a PhD in molecular biology and actually have some experience in putting together tests like test used for #Covid, like RATs and PCRs

turns out I was right and
YES
I am getting shoulder strain from patting myself on the back for my superior hindsight

I speculate that with modern tools like CRISP we could make poop smell nice
or worse

J'ai regardé un chouette #documentaire hier soir sur ces fameux "ciseaux génétiques" dont on a entendu parler récemment suite au prix #Nobel de chimie décerné aux chercheuses Emmanuelle #Charpentier et Jennifer #Doudna .

C'était une bonne occasion d'en apprendre un peu plus et de comprendre en quoi ça consistait.
Je l'ai trouvé passionnant et très bien réalisé ce petit documentaire. 🎥
