Spent the past 3 days on 395 between Lone Pine & Independence. Saw dozens of LADWP dump trucks.
They're hauling sand to the foot of major drainages above the aqueduct, in an attempt to slow down spring snowmelt.
There was, also, more water in Owens Lake than I've ever seen.
What quality & quantity of poetic irony will we witness if spring runoff destroys the millions of $s worth of dust mitigation LADWP has been legally mandated to install at Owens Lake?
How cool would it be if @USGSwaterCA was on Mastodon? #cawx #CAwater

I have never seen this type of #flood control measure before! Here is how some farmers deal with a breach in the Tulare Lake bottom. I assume they will pile some additional dirt on. #cawater #cawx #farm #agriculture

The first rule of dealing with state-imposed LADWP water-diversion rulings:
LAWDP doesn't comply unless it's sued.
In the meantime, it relies on half-truths, obfuscations, and delaying tactics.. #CAwater
Water wonks will want to wade into this piece on the #Cadiz project. #CAwater

Today's installment of Maven's indispensable daily crib sheet of CA water news.
I don't expect most folks to geek out on water, water policy, and weather to the degree I do. However, if you want a daily crib sheet of California water news, you can't do better than Maven's Notebook! Sign up, read, digest, and contribute (link in comments)!

Storms such as the ones headed for California remind me of the [squandered] value of Twitter as a vital information resource during emergencies. Many meteorologists remain on Twitter, and some are cross-posting on Mastodon and Post, which is encouraging. But I'm concerned about Twitter's infrastructure, and especially concerned about its ability to provide timely, quality / authoritative information regarding the events of the 2023 fire season. #cawx #cafire #cawater
Not encouraging news for the coastal areas north of Santa Cruz and south of Davenport. 4 inches of rain over Tues pm through Thursday pm, with a possible 6+ inches for 7 or 8 days following. A steady, relentless, week-long soaking. #cawx #cawater

The legal deets on the complaint filed earlier this month by the Sierra Club and a coalition of local environmental orgs against the City of #Bakersfield:
The complaint alleges the city's diversion of Kern River 💧 regularly results in the complete dewatering of the #KernRiver, "w/out satisfying its duties under the CA Constitution, the Public Resources Code, Fish & Game Code, the CA Civil Code, & the #publictrust doctrine."

LA Department of Water and Power's disingenuous (and illegal) behavior -- and PR campaign that's equal parts churlish and childish -- regarding mandated dust mitigation at Owens Lake.
Twitter refugees: are you into #waterpolicy in the West? ? Do you geek out on the socio-economic impacts of climate, water waste, and residential development on hydrology, and water delivery/infrastructure? If you're not already doing so, consider following
