CBS REPORTS: "Gay Power, Gay Politics" - 4/26/1980, CBS

CBS News produced this sleazy hour-long slam at LGB activism, implying that the whole movement was primarily a fight for the right to have same-sex sex in public and to brainwash and perhaps molest children. (The Right's rhetoric and lies have scarcely changed in the 40+ years since then.)

It begins well enough, with the 1979 March on Washington, but quickly devolves into smarmy attacks on a minority that was still considered criminals in most of the US and was fighting for decriminalization and protection from job discrimination.

It aired as part of the CBS REPORTS series, which 13 years earlier had broadcast an almost-as-bad smear piece called THE HOMOSEXUALS.

After GAY POWER, GAY POLITICS aired, the National News Council ruled that the show had violated basic journalistic ethics on multiple counts.
