#COTA is holding meetings about its September 2023 service changes: https://cota.com/servicechanges/
I plan to raise concerns about:
- failure to mark relocated stops or update maps
- Commuter Notices aren't posted online
- temporary reroute announcements are inaccessible PDFs, without map or locations of new stops

#Today is going to be a chill day. Catching up on the #IMSA #COTA action and the recent #RoadAltanta #FormulaDrift event.
Have to fit my daily walk and a shower in there too. Debating some hair choppery.
Simple dinner tonight already planned.
Otherwise, just refilling the batteries before diving into what looks to be a very busy work week ahead.

I was hoping for rail in some distant future for my hometown, something similar to the Tunis Light Metro. When in fact what Columbus is going for is Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). This might still work for residence as long as there are a majority of dedicated bus lanes.

#Columbus #Ohio system #COTA could go fare-free by increasing sales tax from 0.05% to 0.6%, according to this editorial from @SunriseColumbus@twitter.com in the Columbus Underground:

Another thing mentioned:
Many routes are planned with a short layover at the end of the route, to allow the #bus driver time to stretch, eat, drink, use the bathroom, etc. On long routes with frequent reroutes or traffic delays (anything going past Nationwide), that break time is eaten into by the entirely anticipated delays. Drivers said that #COTA route planners need to ride the routes with drivers and learn about conditions on the ground.

Another operator chimes in: Today she works 8a-12p, off for 2h, on 2p-6p, then tomorrow 4:45a! And she is only allowed 8 hours off to sleep! She says it isn't safe for drivers. No regular hours.
A #COTA bus driver asked some great questions in tonight's hearing: COTA has more operators now than it did in 2016; why can't we provide late-night service now when we did then? (response: scheduling) Why is driver scheduling so bad? An 8-hour workday is so split up that you're spending 18h away from home.

@gordieh @dmoser In 2021, fares only covered 3% of #COTA's operating revenue: https://benlk.com/2022/11/20/free-bus-fare-in-columbus/
(This is distorted by post-pandemic drops in ridership and record sales tax revenue in #Columbus ; the proportion was closer to 11% in 2019)
@betterstreetschicago #COTA/#MORPC's #LinkUs plans for BRT in Columbus will take 7-8 years to be built, if they get the funding to do the road work. #COTA isn't interested in building out high-frequency transit through increased service, and there's no appetite in the #Ohio Statehouse for other forms of high-capacity transit. You might get BRT before us.
We started our first season running #Stock1000 (our stock liter bike class) with a #superbike round at #COTA in #Texas. Sean Thomas from Longmont CO piloted our #Yamaha #YamahaR1 machine for the early season.
BTS: We were pitted across from Danillo Petrucci (he and several members of their team were quite kind — his truck driver, Levi, became one of my favorite crew folks to chat with last season). I got starstruck when Suzi Perry showed up to interview Petrucci.
