I went through the past month of obituaries from a nearby large city. I was struck by how many of them were between the ages of 20-60. "Died unexpectedly" so many of them say. I feel like I'm reading the newspaper in 1918.

Except this is all largely preventable.

The H1N1 influenza pandemic of 1918 eventually burned out. #COVID won't do that, at least not foreseeably. Why? Survivors of the 1918 flu had some decent immunity. This doesn't happen with rapidly-mutating Covid, which can reinfect you again in mere WEEKS. Covid also negatively impacts our immune system and its ability to fight other pathogens, which opens us up to other serious illnesses.

The #vaccines are not enough, #monoclonals are not effective against current variants, and #Paxlovid has its issues. Compare the outcomes in Philadelphia (responding after things hit critical mass) vs. St. Louis (rapid implementation of NPIs).
