Cifer update. Some progress (sort of). The hard disk did not spin up. After a bit of faffing I realised the flywheel on the bottom of the drive was seized. A few gentle rocks and it was free. The video is my second attempt at spinning it up, the first failed as it partially spun up then spun down with a 'motor' error. Excuse my exclamation at the end ... (solid light means drive ready).

But it doesn't work either. 🙁
But there is a raster so it's not the CRT! 😁
But the hard disk doesn't seem to spin up. 🙁
But it HAS got the 68000 card for UNIX! 😁
But work/other commitments means it's likely to be months before I can properly look at it. 😢
They don't make 'em like they used to..

Cifer 1887 update. There are five RIFAs in the power supply. I think I found the problem cap...
All will be replaced although it might be better to get a modern supply. 🤔

Latest acquisition. One for all you CP/M and UNIX chaps out there. A Cifer 1887G fitted with a 10mb Rodime full height hard disk (spare also provided) and just about every ounce of documentation you could imagine, including contemporary sales brochures. Nice.
Power supply needs attention as the previous owner reported last time it was switched on it booted but then there was a loud pop and magic smoke. Sounds like RIFAs to me...
