#CRAF also made a press statement about the new finding today. https://www.esf.org/news-media/news-press-releases/article/craf-concerned-over-electromagnetic-leakage-from-satellite-constellations-that-could-impact-astronomical-observations/
CRAF is an expert committee of the European Science Foundation. 4/
Some of us are also heavily involved in spectrum management. That is we go to meetings of the ITU-R and other organisations to fight for an interference-free environment at the radio telescopes.
Our spectrum management work is mostly done under the umbrella of the Committee on Radioastronomy Frequencies (#CRAF, https://www.craf.eu/). CRAF was involved with the compatibility calculations done in ECC Report 271 (https://docdb.cept.org/document/1032).

@carlysagan @Jwilliams @sundogplanets I do get your point and perhaps you are right.
Radio astronomers, who try to keep the skies quiet are organized in 3 regional organizations (#CORF, #CRAF, and #RAFCAP), plus there is an international organization, #IUCAF. As you can imagine, there is a huge amount of work to do for us world-wide. As such, we *have to* share the workload. I'm spending 100% of my work time with this and a fair fraction of my free time, too.
@hfalcke That is very interesting!
#CRAF, #IUCAF, and #CORF have been working on spectrum management and radio astronomy protection in the #SZM (shielded zone of the moon) at the ITU-R. Feel free to contact us to coordinate our efforts. There is a lot of pressure on the spectrum even on the Moon these days. And self-generated interference is also an issue.
@AlexSanterne @VRubinObs It's still not too late, to do something about it. Join the #IAU #CPS (https://cps.iau.org/) and help!
Also your regional radio astronomy spectrum management groups are working very hard to protect the sky. #IUCAF #CORF #CRAF #RAFCAP We need your help, too. @Jwilliams

@alexshill @Jwilliams In Europe, all major facilities are organised in #CRAF (https://www.craf.eu/), so we have people from research institutes working in spectrum management yet these are not governmental in the strict sense and there is no obligation for CRAF members to sail under national flag when going to meetings.
@alexshill @Jwilliams It is not mandatory to join your national delegation. There is #IUCAF or #CRAF for example...
Being part of a national delegation can be both, beneficial or problematic as you are of course bound to your national positions in this case.
