While digging through my digital studio archives, I came across a treasure trove of Cakewalk .WRK and .BUN files from the 20th century. In order to bring these into a functional state, I used VirtualBox to create a Windows XP (beta) VM, found a copy of CakeWalk to install, and picked through the ruins, exporting MIDI and WAVs, and FTPing them back to the real world. Well, back to Linux anyway. #midi #linux #cakewalk

Updates are completed, software is installed, and the first attempt at doing something with #cakewalk and #amplitude is complete!

It's not much, and I need to get better at playing with a metronome, but it's mine and I'm excited about composing stuff again!

I really do wish that #cakewalk and all the various VST's were natively available for Linux.

You can run them under Wine and Yabridge, but it's a bit of a faff!

Does anyone use the Cakewalk digital audio workstation (DAW) to produce electronic dance music (EDM)?

I know Ableton and FL Studio are more popular but they're expensive -- and Cakewalk is free. I just want something full-featured and professional to use while I learn EDM production.

Is Cakewalk a realistic option to produce professional-sounding EDM, and leave room to grow as I learn?
