The scariest part of the "Slaves benefited from slavery" bs is that if you repeat the crap long enough, people start believing it, even those who are marginalized.

My Mother in Law had asked my husband to move back to #Calgary back in the day before he found his tenure track position elsewhere. He said "mom, I never want to live in a place that treats me like a second class citizen again".

Without skipping a beat, my MIL said "but we're not white. How else are we supposed to be treated?"

Normalized racism works because those who are oppressed and marginalized start to believe that this is just the way of the world.
