Another view of A.B. McDonald's former Central Police Headquarters on Saint Andrew's Square in the Calton area of Glasgow. If refurbished properly, this could be a real gem of the east end of the city.

The entrance to the courtyard of the former Central Police Headquarters on Saint Andrew's Square in the Calton area of Glasgow. Designed by A.B. McDonald and built in 1903, this is another one of the city's grand old buildings which is crying out to be bought back into use.

You find many strange things abandoned outside of Glasgow pubs on a Sunday morning, but this is the first time I've found a piano! Needless to say, someone had been sick on it.

Beautiful sculpted panel on 202 Hunter Street in the Calton area of Glasgow. Designed by John Gordon and built in 1902, the sculpture reflects the buildings original occupation by a potato and grain merchant. This is probably the largest such relief sculpture on a tenement building in the city.

James D Galloway Tyre Distribution ghost sign on the gable end of an east end tenement building in Glasgow.
In the distance, you can just make out some of the memorials in the city's necropolis.

My final walk of my Peak District adventure. Weather stay fairly clear with the exception of a bit of hail early on. Views around Thorpe, Musden Wood and Ilam Hall were fantastic. #PeakDistrict #Thorpe #ThorpeCloud #Blore #HazeltonClump #Calton #MusdenWood #IlamCountryPark #Hiking

Greenhead Works on McPhail Street, Glasgow.
The central polychromatic brick section dates from around 1840, while the sandstone section in the foreground is from the end of the 1800s. In the background is a modern tenement block. Three very different architectural styles and periods, but I feel they all compliment each other very well, especially since the roofline has been maintained across all three.

Saint Andrew Parish Church, Calton, Glasgow.
Built in the mid-1700s, this impressive church was designed by Alan Dreghorn. It was based on James Gibb's 1722 Saint Martin-in-the-Fields in London.

Memorials to the Past: Looking from the Calton Burial Ground in the east end of Glasgow out to Abercromby Street.
In the background is Mark Worst's mural of St Thenue, which incorporates motifs representing the 29 women and girls who died in 1889 at the nearby Templeton's Carpet Factory.
Just in front of this, in the wall of the graveyard, is a memorial commemorating those martyred in the 1787 weavers' strike.

This is a little gem of polychromatic brick building that's seen better days (and despite being listed really looks like it's on its last legs). It's on Tobago Street in Calton, Glasgow.
It was designed by A Adam and built in 1905 as a store and stable for James Fraser, who was a rag and metal merchant.

St Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Abercromby Street in the east end of Glasgow.
Built in the 1840s and designed in the classical style by Goldie and Child of London. At the time it was built, it was said to be the second biggest Roman Catholic church in Scotland (after St Andrew's Cathedral on Clyde Street).

The once-imposing facade of the former Calton Police Station in the east end of Glasgow. Designed by John Carrick and opened in 1869, it contained offices, a muster hall, a court room, mortuary and 30 cells at the back.
Despite being B Listed, this building is considered at risk of being lost. Parts of its roof have already fallen in and it's generally in a very poor state of repair.

Wellpark Institute, 120 Sydney Street, Calton, Glasgow.
This grand Italianate building was built in 1867 as a Free Church school. When constructed, it would have been surrounded by the community it served, but it now stands isolated amongst industrial sites and wasteland.
