Fun Fact: #GeoffreyHinton did his doctoral research in #AI at the University of Edinburgh under the supervision of polymath and pioneer in #TheoreticalChemistry and Computational #Chemistry Christopher Longuet-Higgins, formerly on the faculty at #CambridgeUniversity where he collaborated with John Pople. 👉 http://www.quantum-chemistry-history.com/Lo-Hi2Ue.htm

My final seminar with the #UniMelbourne colours and design. It was fun to speak at the #CambridgeUniversity #Endosymbiosis Seminar. Thank you very much for the invitation Sebastian Schornack, and thanks to everyone who attended and joined the discussion - I enjoyed it at lot. 🙂

To usher in the #yearoftherabbit, an exuberantly executed (albeit silent) voluntary played on a pipe organ by this highly-skilled musical rabbit (his canine companion at the bellows). They adorn the lower margin of the Macclesfield Psalter, one of the most richly illuminated manuscripts to survive from fourteenth-century England. In the top lefthand corner, a sleepy dragon, awaits his turn in next year’s Lunar line-up… All image credits to #FitzwilliamMuseum #CambridgeUniversity

The living arrangements for a historian of late antiquity aren't always so grand, but I did enjoy seeing the interiors of the Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, Master's Lodge in a recent issue of The English Home magazine. (The current Master is Christopher Kelly.)

Great to hunt for Butcher's-broom, Ruscus aculeatus, in the Botanic Garden today, a strange plant, 'leaves' are really cladodes, flattened stems, & plants generally dioecious, tiny ♂️ & ♀️ flowers on different plants. Cladodes on males always look narrower to me. Some plants with ♂️ flowers but with berries so maybe better word is 'subdioecious'! 🤯

Every person has an individual chemical fingerprint. The composition of small molecules in the blood, such as fats or sugars, determines how our body reacts to external influences and which diseases we are susceptible to. Scientists of the #BIH have collaborated with partners from #CambridgeUniversity in an international collaboration to investigate how #genes and small #molecules influence our personal #disease risk - published in #NatureMedicine. 👉

Hi everyone! Still figuring out how Mastodon works. I'm a PhD Candidate based at #CambridgeUniversity, wrapping up dissertation research on the challenges that large organizations (like those in oil and gas) face while pursuing Net Zero-aligned innovations. As a social scientist & management scholar, my work spans several areas including #ClimateChange #Innovation #Orgtheory #Entrepreneurship Looking forward to meeting new people and finding old friends/colleagues on here.

It’s #introduction on #Fediscience time. I’m a #StructuralBiologist #Biochemist by training passionate about #InfectiousDiseases and understanding bacterial #metabolism, formerly at #CambridgeUniversity and #EMBL. Looking forward to connect over #Crystallography and #StructuralBiology. Fun things outside of science include #climbing.

#introduction I'm an Investigator Scientist at the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit at #CambridgeUniversity. I use #Structuralbiology and #Biochemistry to study respiratory complex I, using a range of techniques including single particle #CryoEM #Enzymekinetics and #Respirometry. In this role I am particularly interested in #Biguanide therapeutics, #Mitochondria, and workplace wellbeing.
I'm not just a scientist though, I like drawing and painting, and my favourite band is #Tool :)

Time for our #introduction !
We are a group of researchers in #archaeology at #CambridgeUniversity (something called #CDAL ). We are challenging scientists from every fields & every level to infer what happened in an artificial world where a group of #Farmers replaced a group of #HunterGatherers . Its a game, open to anyone, using any #inference method as long as we can re-run the analysis ourself ( #OpenSource tools only, we won't pay a matlab licence to re-run your code 🙃 )
