I've noticed an increasing number of negative, complaining posts about #Aquarius as Aquarius season has been coming up. I think there's a poetic irony that #Capricorn season precedes Aquarius season, and as the other Saturn-ruled sign, Capricorn represents the opposite end of a polarity upon which Aquarius stands for a universal hope and optimism about the future, although they share Saturnian themes of independence and alienation: Capricorn seeks independence through structure, discipline and work whereas Aquarius seeks independence through freedom and individuality. The thing they most have in common is the general pervasiveness of the feeling of standing outside of society.

Perhaps the themes of Capricorn and Aquarius, alongside their ruler of Saturn, can help us understand why seasonal depression is so prevalent during this time of year. Aquarius season represents an entire month where the sun is in its detriment, and the paradoxical hope and optimism that comes with the dawn of spring (Imbolc, February 2nd).
