Between IKEA and Bay Street, it will be interesting to see #CarFreeCity changes after decades of pro-car development in Emeryville
@mattjhodgkinson Now if only Cambridge city extended the proposal to weekends, when air pollution reaches absurd levels on the streets leading to the Grand Arcade parking, in addition to multi-kilometre long traffic jams.
Cambridge city has a conflict of interest with that parking, which it owns, and a legal problem with the commitment to supply parking to the John Lewis department store above. Until this resolves, I remain doubtful any measures will have much impact.

@mattjhodgkinson “each kilometre cycled benefits society to the tune of €0.64, each kilometre driven incurs a net loss of -€0.71, when impacts on individual wellbeing (physical and mental health, accidents, traffic) and the environment (climate, air and noise pollution) are accounted for. So each kilometre travelled where a car is replaced by a bicycle generates €1.35 of social benefits–of which only a few cents would be saved by switching… to an electric-powered car”

Congestion charges are the most effective way to reduce urban car use:

If you don’t like the proposed #Cambridge #CongestionCharge for the Sustainable Transport Zone, but you agree we must reduce car use to lower climate impacts and lessen air pollution, then:
1) Suggest changes to the proposal to make it more equitable and/or practical; and/or
2) Lobby for other policies, e.g. fewer parking spaces, more car-free streets, and resident-only traffic zones.

@davewalker This is a paywalled article in Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, about the trend that several estates in downtown #Oslo are used as showrooms for EVs. Your illustration could fit right into the article! https://www.aftenposten.no/oslo/i/3EM06e/den-nye-bilbutikk-boomen
