Today would have been Car Sagan's 88th birthday. didn't know who he was until after he passed away, but Carl is one of the biggest influences in my life. His approach to the Cosmos is a real inspiration and comfort to me. #CarlSaganDay #CarlSagan

Carl Sagan was born #OTD in 1934. Science-minded as he was, he also explored the boundaries of science and faith -- notably in the novel and film Contact, as I wrote recently in Nautilus:
