Not the best picture but it’s tough to get the best shot with an iPhone. I’ve had this Venus flytrap for several months and it’s thrived sufficiently to send up a blossom. The reason for the long stem is, of course, the evolutionary result of not wanting to eat the pollinators.

Day 4: Asian #hornets (Vespa velutina) keep causing a lot of grief to beekeepers in my area, and they're becoming here the most loathed insect in their own right.

The fact they are large apex predators, however, didn't deter my Venus #flytraps from trying some Asian food.

I have built myself a small carnivorous plant habitat in an old fish tank at work. It is mainly for subtropical sundews such as Drosera venusta, D. cuneifolia, D. natalensis, D. capensis and D. neocaledonica x oblanceolata, also some Utricularia such as U. livida and U. bisquamata 'Betty's Bay'. I find it fascinating to watch this 'little world' and how it develops, there are also some animals living in there such as springtails, woodlice and nematodes. #carnivorousplant #sundew #plants

I came back from the garden center with a #SunDew plant because well, I'm tired of hunting down all those pesky little bugs that think that my house is theirs. It's my first carnivorous plant!
