I originally come from #Carrickfergus , Co. Antrim, its name derived from 'Carraig Fhearghais' in Irish, meaning 'the rock of Fergus', i.e. Fergus Mór mac Eirc, said to be the first king of Dál Riata to rule in Scotland (Alba). Tradition states that he died on a shipwreck on a rock in what is today known as Belfast Lough (& in the past Carrickfergus Bay), with this rock later the site of a Norman castle built by John de Courcy in 1177. #genealogy #Ireland #FamilyHistory (pic: Wikipedia)
