Wandered a bit in the woods near the house yesterday trying to see if there was any sign of where a REALLY LOUD lightning bolt struck a couple days ago.

Couldn't find anything, but I did come across some more cool rock formations up behind my neighbor's house. #CedarGapMtn #Alabama

Took a little hike/metal detecting up on #CedarGapMtn over the weekend.

Got a hit by this boulder

Grandfather red oak alongside the house. Based on the circumference (diameter * pi), we estimate its age as 160 years, i.e. it sprouted back around the US Civil War.

It's visible as a gray smudge in a 1942 aerial photo of #CedarGapMtn. Along with the hillside paths that led to and from it. How many people do you think had a lunch under its then 80ish-year-old branches?

First up, this statuesque oak rising to the canopy from a small clearing down by our gully. #CedarGapMtn

A few ups and downs this afternoon--and now it's raining. #CedarGapMtn

Alrighty then! This took like all over ten seconds to uncover and is one of the weightiest finds I've run into on #CedarGapMtn

There's no corrosion on it, so I guess I'm inclined to believe it's aluminum? Didn't seem heavy enough for stainless steel.

Where did this come from and how did it get here?

Well, now it's a stake in the garden.

Winter is ending on #CedarGapMtn, and Spring is springing.

Well that got a little blowy here for a few minutes. Grabbed the cats and headed down to the basement for about 10 minutes. What you don't want to hear on wall-to-wall storm weather coverage is the name of the small town you live near being repeatedly mentioned.

But all clear here now on #CedarGapMtn, not even a power flicker.

Three years ago we let Tammy the Dog (who was a VERY good girl) off the leash for the last time.

Expecting iffy weather today--which is panning out--we hiked up #CedarGapMtn Tuesday to spend a little time with her at her final resting place.
