Information on the anatomical site where a #cellline has been sampled has been completely enhanced and is now linked to the UBERON ontology (http://obofoundry.org/ontology/uberon.html). Cell type information has been also standardized and linked to the CL ontology (http://obofoundry.org/ontology/cl.html). Currently we make use of 803 UBERON and 241 CL terms.
The 1972 paper describing the snake #cellline OpC-89 (https://www.cellosaurus.org/CVCL_T718) is quite interesting as 3 of its 5 authors had "atypical" careers: Ruth L Kirschstein was the 1st woman appointed director of an NIH Institute (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_L._Kirschstein), Artrice V Bader was the 1st woman to earn a doctorate in biology at Georgetown (https://today.advancement.georgetown.edu/georgetown-magazine/2020/women-wall-honoring-underappreciated-legacy/) and Lester E Harris Jr. was an herpetologist that became a creationist

A new dog mammary gland carcinoma #cellline CMT-1: https://bmcvetres.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12917-023-03573-9 but there is already a CMT-1 cell line from dog and from the same type of cancer which was established in 1986! Another example how reviewers and publishers (here #BMC) fail to do their homework
#BehindCellLines #13: The BRO #cellline (https://www.cellosaurus.org/CVCL_7036) seems to have been established by Arnold Lockshin a US researcher who defected with his wife in 1986 to the USSR. For more on this fascinating story see:

A wonderful study carried out on the EndoC-betaH1 #cellline (https://cellosaurus.org/CVCL_L909): "A genome-wide CRISPR screen identifies CALCOCO2 as a regulator of beta cell function influencing type 2 diabetes risk":

In addition to the "Virology" field, two new comment fields were introduced in #Cellosaurus Rel.44: "Senescence" and "Donor information". Example: https://www.cellosaurus.org/CVCL_ZT99 #cellline
A nice discussion on the "best human cell line" in the Quantixed blog: https://quantixed.org/2022/10/01/line-up-recommendations-for-the-best-human-cell-line/
#cellline #biology
Starting with rel.44 information regarding the susceptibility of a #cellline to viral infection, the presence of integrated viruses or any other virology-related information are now stored in a new "Virology" comment. A new candidate in our #cellline human face (quite cartoon-like pareidolia serie. Our last post was exactly a year ago on twitter: https://twitter.com/Cellosaurus/status/1458910329904283663?s=20&t=cvsHBAL2uU-B-WbAVS3vnQ
One of the coolest things about science IMO is every mistake or accident can be used as a teaching moment
One of the rotation students I'm training is new to #TissueCulture had some contamination in her #CellLine cultures, and it turned into a discussion of places we may not think contaminants may be hiding!
One of the reasons Im pursuing academia is to make sure students feel like they are learning from their mistakes rather than failing and stopping there, nice to see it in the small scale.
