@jwildeboer I'm pretty confident that #CentOS - Stream is neither idntical in packages and versions not guaranteed to be binary compatible.

I mean I've ran the numbers and when push came to shove it was cheaper to migrate a customer to @ubuntu and pay #Subscriptions with hard #SLA's than licensing @SUSE or even @redhat by a factor of 8 just by licening cost and even break-even if one were to account for > 1.000 hours of sysadmin time to do the migration...

@jwildeboer @SUSE @ubuntu @opensuse @SolarisDiaspora I think "Just clone #RHEL!" is kinda bad and unsustainable as a business.
Killing #CentOS and barring #OracleLinux was more of "glock-leg" / "shooting themselves in the foot" of #RedHat and IMHO it should get RHEL to decline in adoption similar to #grsecurity when they #paywalled access to their #SourceCode.

I think it's a bad move even tho no #GPL version demands said sourcecode to be publicly accessible to everyone.

Hey #SysAdmin folks, now that the dust has settled, what is the wisdom of the crowd on how the recent #RedHat kerfuffle affects #CentOS long-term?

Is #CentOS still considered a ~sane choice for infra work?
Is it something to migrate off of?

I am mostly a Debian person, and I am not following the RedHat/CentOS space too closely. Can anyone help out here?

Been checking out #ThreadsApp the past several days while waiting on my fixed #Fedora and #CentOS #Hyperscale builds.

Quite like the vibes, once #ActivityPub #federation is enabled and Threads join the #Fediverse I might experiment with following Mastodon/Pleroma accounts from there and vice versa. Would be interesting to see what 🧵 content look like with reverse chronological feed and Fediverse content viewer in a news feed!

My life since yesterday: trying to get an updated version of #perf for #CentOS #Hyperscale SIG. Finally settled on basing it on kernel-tools from #Fedora -- but once it builds fine in mock I discovered it broke in #CBS . Fun when things can't be reproduced easily locally, grr.

Luckily I can get around this by disabling an unrelated subpackage, I think, but... this definitely merits a blog post once I get around to it.

Problem with the software industry is none of us want to pay for software but all of us want to make money selling software 🤑

The only valid move against moves like that of #RedHat and #grsecurity beefore them is to refuse to use, develop for or maintain their systems in protest of it.
Because #RHEL lives off the supoort by 2nd and 3rd parties.
@ubuntu might be a good choice since a lot of corporations that got shafted in the axing of #CentOS 8 are moving to them as they don't paywall #Ubuntu LTS at all.
I think it's important to break apart @redhat 's dominance and the de-facto duopoly with #SUSE.
