Here is a 3.3 x 2.2 degrees field of view in the constellation of Cepheus that includes many objects; the Lobster Claw Nebula (Sharpless 2-157), the Bubble Nebula (NGC 7635), the NGC 7538 emission nebula and the Sharpless 2-161 H II region, as well as the Messier 52 and NGC 7510 open clusters.

The data was captured under bright moonlight on three nights between August 27 and September 3. The moonlight made the data noisy and difficult to process.

Some widefield goodness across the area of and . This is with my 35mm Samyang at F2.8 using a H-Alpha filter and a total of 8 hours integration. I use this piggy back on my main scope so its kinda free which is nice ๐Ÿ™‚ see how many of the famous nebula you can spot.

Young star forming nebula in the constellation of Cepheus. It is 2,900 light-years away and contains one of the hottest stars discovered within 1 kpc of the Sun, namely BD+66 1673, an eclipsing binary system consisting of a star that has a surface temperature of nearly 45,000 K and a luminosity about 100,000 times that of the Sun.

Mu Cephei (Herschel's Garnet Star)

Red supergiant in the constellation Cepheus. It appears garnet red and is located at the edge of the IC 1396 nebula. It is visually nearly 100,000 times brighter than the Sun. It is also one of the largest known stars with a radius around or over 1,000 times that of the Sun. If it were placed in the Sun's position it would engulf the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

NGC 6946 Fireworks Galaxy

Magnitude 9.6 face-on intermediate spiral galaxy located 25.2 million light-years away between the constellations Cepheus and Cygnus. 10 supernovae have been observed in NGC 6946. That is about 10X the rate observed in our own galaxy, even though the Milky Way has 2X as many stars. For this reason, NGC 6946 is often referred to as the "Fireworks Galaxy".
