@alexboly @basti At the extreme end of the spectrum, we have had conversations with teams looking into #ChaosEngineering *because* they did not have „enough“ outages and were looking for safe ways to stage high-fidelity fire drills in order to probe for and eventually grow organizational resilience.
@alexboly @basti This is a pattern I believe we can observe: The higher the cost (revenue, reputation, etc) of system failures, the earlier organizations will feel the push to look into preventive measures in addition to improving MTTR, and the more likely they are to consider involved methods like #ChaosEngineering.
@basti @alexboly So my context of course is a bit specia, I guessl: #ChaosEngineering is not something you can easily tie to some other deliverable. It's explorative, you can't say what you'll find up-front (it's probe-sense-respond in complex environments after all), when you find something, it'll create more work down the road, etc. It's more like an insurance against the unknown unknowns. So communicating your hypotheses in terms of business risk is what I was referring to.
More #introduction: I've joined a #ChaosEngineering startup in January. Since I'm no longer an engineering individual contributor and am not an expert for the deep *technical* challenges of building & running distributed systems, I have to approach the domain from a slightly different angle.
So I'd love to find folks interested in #ComplexityTheory, #SystemThinking, #ResilienceEngineering and the organizational challenges of keeping complex IT systems running to exchange ideas and experiences.
