The stunning Edwardian Baroque Saint George's Mansion in Glasgow dwarfed by the concrete and tarmac of Junction 18 of the M8.
Built in the 1960s and 70s, the construction of the M8 led to the demolition of many historic building, but the damage to the architecture of Charing Cross was amongst the worst in the city.

Corner turret on St George's Mansions at Charing Cross in Glasgow.
Designed by Burnet and Boston in an Edwardian Barique Style and built around 1900, the details on this building are just sublime.

Originally constructed as a warehouse in 1898, this building at 516 Sauchiehall Street was redeveloped as Glasgow's first purpose-built cinema, opening in 1910 as the Charing Cross Electric Theatre. It closed in 1926 and was later turned into the Locamo Ballroom.

Charing Cross Mansions, Glasgow.
Designed by JJ Burnet in the Early French Renaissance Style and built in 1891, this is one of two truly beautiful buildings at Charing Cross. The other is St George's Mansions. Between them runs the M8 motorway, making it very difficult to propelry appreciate either of them.

In the 1970’s the entire block on which the #GoldenCross stood (Long Acre, Cross Lane & Castle St) including the site of the Golden Cross was demolished as vacant and dilapidated #c18th buildings from #Holborn through to #CharingCross were redeveloped. By 1979 Odhams Printing Press had became a large residential complex named ‘#OdhamsWalk.’
