A right to unionize/organize is guaranteed to workers as part of the overall freedom of association. However, that doesn't mean that a union or association of workers have a right to collective bargaining or to strike. It's regular law that permits strikes, or requires businesses to enter into collective agreements when workers have organized.

I'm not a #historian of #labour #workers #unions. Still, given the government of #Ontario's #unionbusting legislation, including setting aside #CharterRights, and #CUPE's decision to #strike, I thought I'd share a few resources on this #history in #Canada. Fudge & Tucker, "The Freedom to Strike in Canada: A Brief Legal History" (2009) underline how #publicsector workers have increasingly faced "suspension or limitation of freedoms without a grant of compensatory rights." https://heinonline.org/HOL/Page?handle=hein.journals/canlemj15&div=21&g_sent=1&casa_token=s_vkInDgdrwAAAAA:vKe9zICZkQUFnkxwTQD4wlokC7BWxIHS0y6Q2k38UdqPjdQ4b7JRXrqJZCIyt-Mqw4TMTDxjlg&collection=journals
