Marc Andreessen drank the #aihype Kool-Aid. https://a16z.com/2023/06/06/ai-will-save-the-world/. He has some good points but IMHO #chatbot AI assistants for mental health, education, research, executive coaching etc. are not going to satisfy users until they solve the binding problem (making #AI understand the link between words and real world experiences, not just linking to other words.) And the current generation of #llm tech is not going to solve it. Maybe there will be a breakthrough, but it's hard to predict.

I'm slowly making progress on multiple areas of Acuitas. Narrative, Game Playing, and now a text generation/speech output overhaul are all moving ahead (got to give myself some variety).

Because we were talking about regular expressions as simple but powerful #NLP tool in the last #ISE2023 lecture, I was referring to Weizenbaum's ELIZA which was implemented based on simple regex substitution patterns. Here you can see the result, when I was asking stable diffusion to imagine Weizenbaum being in conversation with ELIZA ;-)

Heads up to anyone trying to do a self-referral on the #NHS to a mental health service (at least in #Nottinghamshire) the seemingly only way to do this is to simulate a conversation with a #chatbot, including waiting for it to "type". It engages in pointless small talk too, for extra insult to injury. It would have been at least 4x quicker to fill out the same information as a multipart form!
