Reflecting on Gillian Tett's piece in FT Life & Arts on & and the 'training' of to be comedians, leads me to draw the (not original, I'm sure) conclusion that is a misanthropic ; its parasitic on human knowledge with the explicit aim of replacing human intellectual activity...

Without wishing to be (overly) alarmist, are we heading towards the dystopia of Vonnegut's Player Paino, unless we take evasive action (and fast)??

Interesting point... of course 'deskilling' is the central aspect of much leftist critique of how controls labour, so in that sense not unexpected.

And of course the shift you identify is now merely a staging post before in cortina sectors & for certina jobs the take over

@japonica The solution to this is not to delete your comments. is not trying to get money from 3rd Party Apps, instead they want in on the training for apps. Up until now these have been trained for free on Reddit content and Reddit wants that to stop. Users should take their comments, filter them through and repost them. won't want to pay to train their AI on content that's already generated by AI.

"Policymakers can build off of key principles learned from the push to bring and oversight to social media":

Principle 1 — Safety by Design: "Addressing the root causes […] is more effective than focusing on outcomes or content."

"Principle 2 — Balance Information Asymmetries: We need to be able to look under the hood."

"Principle 3 — Address the Business Model."

I've been producing the GeekWire podcast for three years now, but this is one of the wildest and most interesting episodes yet. We had an AI system clone the voices of our two hosts, Todd Bishop and John Cook, and then we let the clones introduce the show. GeekWire reporter Kurt Schlosser is also on this podcast. His reaction: "I hate those guys!" Check out the clones and see what you think.

Anyone arguing that the solution to the problems emerging around (and specifically ) is the use of more , is really not interested in solving the problems.

A technological arms-race is what got us to this point with , and arguing for merely another iteration demonstrates a lack of understanding of the society-technology interface.

Regulation & education in chatbots' ways are the start of the answer, not another 'technological fix'!
