Could someone help me on this? I have two #Mastodon instances (with #Checkmk, but SW is irrelevant), one that was set up using 3.5 and updated the way to 4.1 and one that was set up at 4.1. Both run Ubuntu 20.04 and were installed from source.

Now I try to extract #Sidekiq monitoring data. This works on the "old" instance, but not on the new. Can someone point me on the different configuration that might cause this?

@wortezimmer Da hat social.bund.de seine Sidekiq Queues nicht im Griff. Je nach Art der Nutzung einer Instanz priorisiert man eingehende, ausgehende oder Instanz interne Warteschlangen. Bei einer Instanz, die eher sendet, würde ich ausgehende priorisieren. An der #Checkmk Integration zur schnellen Erkennung von Problemen arbeite ich gerade.

@techaddressed If you just need dashboarding, go with #Grafana. If you need proper monitoring, use #Checkmk. You can also combine both using Grafana for combined dashboards and Checkmk for notifications and stuff.

@Weirdaholic https://checkmk.com is a full-fledged IT monitoring solution, host/service based. A free (as in beer) version as well as an OSS version are available. Since I prefer to have everything monitoring related in one place and need notifications for congested queues, I started to write the plugin. You can drag and drop dashboards there like the one shown.

The last days, I built two #Checkmk plug-ins for #monitoring Mastodon: one for Sidekiq (one service for each queue with thresholds for latency and size) plus lots of stats. And one for Mastodon stats in general (users, posts). Both are crude, but already useful although many things are still missing like keeping track on the Sidekiq failed ratio. I'll submit them to the Checkmk Exchange and add them to my Github repo next week. If you are interested, drop me a note.

I startest to improve #Mastodon #monitoring (using #Checkmk) in way that might or might not end up as a blog article (either at my employers or my private blog). Starting with the obvious like CPU, Disk space, PostgreSQL, Redis, TCP connections all using OOTB checks is a no brainer and already provides most of the information to keep everything running stable (or to identify when adjustments or a new server are needed). 1/

Quite interesting for #Checkmk metrics: The number of active sidekiq workers and the queue length should always stay below the maximum number of workers.

I am currently implementing some #Checkmk checks for #Desinfect (mostly license validity and signature status) and I just found out that ClamAV announces signature updates in a DNS TXT record. A very smart move to shift load.
