The coup, supported and assisted by the #UnitedStates, ended #democracy and a period of social progress in Chile and unleashed nearly two decades of #dictatorship, terror, and death on the #country. The perpetrator of the coup, Augusto #Pinochet, was shielded from consequences after he left power by the United States and Great #Britain.
