I just finished reading
#Embassytown by #ChinaMiéville – and what an intellectually wild ride it was! When much of the #sciencefiction one sees nowadays has "aliens" that are just humans with pointy ears, it's refreshing to see someone's idea of a truly alien species, and the challenges of communicating with and understanding them. Here's a spot-on review of the book by none other than the late, great Ursula Le Guin

I finally partook of a #ChinaMieville story myself.

I almost got #PerdidoStreetStation but went for #Kraken instead, in #audiobook format, and a very talented #narrator is the only reason I got through that strange trip of a #book, though I’d be hard pressed to explain to someone what any of it was actually about.

It’s not as if saying #Squidpocalypse is any help. 🦑

I finally finished reading The Scar by China Miéville (2002) and I'm pleased to discover it's the second book in a trilogy. So from my POV I have both a prequel and a sequel to read, if I can track down copies.

Perdido Street Station had been my favourite - until now. Your comment about the noir element, Chris, is spot on. I think that was what made it for me. So atmospheric.
