Netflix's pool of c-dramas is pretty small, and it looks like I've reached the bottom for my favourite genre. Does anyone have tips for Mandarin language shows/movies available somewhere else? Preferably fantasy with English subtitles since I'm at highschool yr1 level.

Another day, another Yin Yang master. Two movies that are au-s to each other. Took me a while to dig up that they're both based on the Onmyoji novel series - which explains A Lot. Dream of Eternity is my favourite, but "The Yin Yang Master" has more fun creatures. Anyway, since my main criteria for good films are 'dragons and/or explosions' I can only say 'Holy sh*t! TWO cakes!' and enjoy.

My Mandarin has deteriorated to the point I can't tell how close the translations are to the originals. What I can tell, as a writer, is how the lines flow and how well they match the action on screen. This is the only show where I've read a subtitle and thought "Wow! That one's good!". So far the only translation that felt flat is the title. So I'll probably wait to see if the show returns... fingers crossed.

Love Between Fairy And Devil is still gone from Netflix Nordic. I managed to see twelve episodes before it was removed. Now, I can find the first three on YouTube, but I'm reluctant to poke around to see if the rest is there. Partly because it may be pirate uploads, and mostly because I liked the English subtitles on Netflix. Good translations are hard to make, and Mandarin is one of the languages that takes the pain to another level.

Ok. The princess was attacked, and Qingming orders Boya to help undress her. My impression of Chinese culture in this respect is probably best summarized in 'easily embarrassed'. But I'm with Boya - I'd pray for the ground to open up and swallow me whole.
