@toothFAIRy @chartgerink @openfuture this links so hard with the book I'm listening to (for the second time in a row atm), #ChokepointCapitalism by Cory Doctorow and Rebecca Giblin.
I am a bit leery of number 1 of the new definition of open in the article because it is uncomfortably close to the "consumer welfare standard" approach to antitrust, but the rest of the content is right on the money.

About 2/3 of the way through listening to the audio book version of #ChokepointCapitalism by @doctorow and oh baby is it good.
Listening to how companies have been able to combine #monopoly and #monopsony to capture buyers and sellers has been a real eye opener.
Highly recommended.

Also just recently finished reading #RedTeamBlues by same and my only complaint is that I finished it in 48 hours and wanted more.

Listening to @pluralistic talking about #ChokepointCapitalism; example of putting down rat poison = no rats, so you remove the rat poison and a year later are overrun by rats.

Like taking meds for a mental illness, figuring you're better and don't need meds bc you feel great, then having a total mental break/meltdown due to being off meds.

Like downsizing/getting rid of most of the #AB fire prevention and then #wildfire season this year is SO BAD.

Of course, the "open source" model being discussed is still heavily controlled by #ChokepointCapitalism:
