About 4 years ago we did this quick improvisation on “Joy To the World“ for Christmas time. Here it is again. Enjoy!🌲❤️

God rest ye stressed and overworked
folks hustling 'gainst the storm.
If lists remain unfinished yet
the Savior shall be born.
Our struggle to complete the tasks
just leaves us all forlorn.
O tidings of comfort and joy,
comfort and joy,
O tidings of comfort and joy.

Do you know where you favourite Christmas carols come from? Here is a pretty good summary about the evolution of Christmas songs. I’d add that the song ‘Oh Come Emmanuel’ (sorry for the spoiler)comes from a hymn sung in monasteries around the VIII - XI centuries, and that the version we know was registered in the XVII c. by German Jesuits. As an atheist I’ve always found strangely comforting...intriguing to read about its origins and the climate-based turmoil that partly inspired it. It’s musical structure is also a deliberate part of its comforting nature it seems:

I want to tell a discursive story about one of my favorite ; one which includes Christian mysticism and apocrypha, self-mortification, the extraordinary difference between form and spirit, and the everlasting power of . It begins at the end of the 13th Century. I hope you read and share.
