The desperation of tech companies to keep you on their browser is pathetic. I ‘Googled’ (🤣) ‘Chrome’ on Bing in the Edge browser and got a series of increasingly desperate dialogues insisting that I don’t need a new browser, and that Edge ‘…runs on the same technology as Chrome, with the added trust of #Microsoft’. I swear if they could, Microsoft would pull down my trousers and suck me off if I promised not to download #Chrome.
About ten years ago, I switched from #Firefox to #Chrome, largely for security reasons—I read that Firefox security was so bad that Pwn2own stopped giving prizes for breaking it. Has Firefox gotten better since then?
I'm considering switching back for #privacy, but the thing is, I have a certain amount of trust in Google—they'll use my data, but I feel pretty sure they won't have a data breach. (I used to work there; I have some idea how much effort is put into keeping their systems secure.) If I switch to an insecure #browser, and get hacked, it won't be much comfort that the browser company didn't get my data.

Si vous n’êtes toujours pas passé à #Firefox, attention à ce que peut faire #Chrome dans votre dos : https://twitter.com/ChanPerco/status/1700860174963970301
I have been using #Firefox for years, but in recent years I have been extremely jealous of #Chrome (and by natural extension #edge ) tab groups. I believe it's the best implementation and execution for me.
Unfortunately, there's nothing similar to Firefox. I believe I've tried *every single extension* that claims to do this and none is as simple and good as what chrome does out of the box. Ffox containers are not a replacement. It's a compromise I make every day. I'd literally pay for that.

#Google #Chrome gets a new feature that will track the web pages you visit and generate a list of advertising topics that it will share with web pages whenever they ask, and it's built directly into the Chrome browser. #privacy

Google gets worse.
#Chrome now directly tracks users, generates a "topic" list it shares with advertisers.
As if feeding #Google everything you do through Chrome isn't bad enough they are doubling down on selling your data.
If you must use Chrome get Chromium: https://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel/
It was nice hanging out for a while. But the time has come. Goodbye #Chrome.
Get off of #Chrome NOW: https://www.osnews.com/story/136989/google-gets-its-way-bakes-a-user-tracking-ad-platform-directly-into-chrome Use #Firefox or if you must use a chromium-based browser for now, at least switch to @Vivaldi where you have more control over the browser. Do NOT use Opera, Brave &c.
« This feature, though, comes with a tradeoff in #privacy, as #Google #Chrome will now send URLs you open (including downloads) back to Google's servers to check if they are malicious » :troll:

I have an old #Macbook (like 2010 old) that my Dad gave me a few years back. It still works surprisingly well (upgraded RAM and SSD helped a bunch). For whatever reason, #Chrome was slower than molasses on it. I decided to give #firefox another chance and it performed a 1000x times better (exaggeration? yes).
Chrome used to be a super lightweight browser that did well on most machines, but that hasn't been the case for a few years.
15 years on, a new version of Chrome:
— personalized Material You theme
— SGE (gen AI search) option in US
— suggests Google searches related to website
— real-time list for Safe Browsing phishing protection
— revamped Chrome extension store

Here's how to turn off at least some of the ad tracking in #Chrome:
