@MacropodCare @malwaretech @torproject #Brave is yet another #Chromium and they also integrated that #WebDRM bs into that as well...
So no.
Just get #Firfox and add some basic #plugins (tho these should be integrated per default!)...

@malwaretech THIS is why I yeeted #GoogleChrome and all #Chromium shit from my devices whilst making @torproject #TorBrowser my default Browser.
Keeping #Firefox tho...

@popey All valid points from a #PIM perspective, I agree and totally understand.
Most of them can be mitigated with #Firefox add-ons I'm using since many years.
But that's not the reason why I'm commenting here.
If everybody is using #Chrome or #Chromium-based browsers (Blink) because it's more convenient, there is no alternative to "go back" any more once one megacorp is controlling the #WWW and its only browser engine left.
You *really* don't want to get there, trust me.

does anyone know why #chrome browsers would [inconsistently] reset all cookie and session data of the site and use raw version (without hydration) if you redirect to it?
example: when you open modrinth from google, e.g. after searching "modrinth sodium", you will be logged out and page won't be hydrated
is this some undocumented security thing or a bug in #chromium? can't reproduce it in canary
@rufposten @milan @MetaGer also #DuckDuckGo ist das nächstbeste...
Bedank' dich bei #Apple die alles außer #WebKit / #Chromium verbieten!

So I just downloaded the ungoogled version of #Chromium, and I'm greeted with what I call the classic Open Source problem™️:
The Chrome Web Store doesn't work. You have to manually enable some settings and install an extension to get it to work. I understand that this is something "googly", but why not leave it enabled? Doesn't hurt, as long as it's not used, right?
Also: No default search engine. Not even DDG or whatever.
Why does Open Source so seldom use sensible defaults?
smh my head
#ubuntu's snap for #firefox defaults to 'llvmpipe' for #WebGL. Their snap for #Chromium uses the correct GPU-driver. Also @mozilla's #firefox-tarball uses the correct GPU-driver. Incompetence or intention on #Canonical's part? I really need to get @debian 12 working *sigh*
#Ubuntu #Firefox #webgl #Chromium #canonical
@supertobi Most #gnome apps use #GStreamer and thus pick Pipewire when available - which again is the case on many/most recent distros. Some newer ones also use the camera portal already, for example Snapshot, Authenticator and Decoder.
Notable non-gstreamer apps include #Firefox (experimental) and almost (some last patches are still pending) #Chromium (and thus by extension #electron apps).
There are also several branches already for #obs which will hopefully turn into a MR soon.

3. A simple API. If your app has its own #v4l2 handling code, switching to #PipeWire gives you a much nicer API to work with. This is especially true if your app already support screen sharing on #Wayland - in that case you already have both #PipeWire and portal support and can reuse a lot of that. That's for example done in #libwebrtc for #Firefox and #Chromium.

#switchtofirefox #firefox #Chromium
Why anyone would want a lazy reskin of #Chromium is beyond me.
There's a reason why @torproject uses @mozilla #Firefox for the #TorBrowser...
And personally, I already use #Tor #Browser because I'm sick and tired of #Ads and #Tracking!

Thomas Claburn - Google's next big idea for browser security looks like another freedom grab to some:

"Dieses dystopische "Web Environment Integrity"-DRM-für-Browser-"Feature" von #Google neulich hat es schon in Chromium geschafft.
Wer also jetzt noch #Chrome oder #Chromium oder einen auf Chromium basierenden Browser benutzt, sollte schnell mit den Füßen wählen und zu #Firefox gehen. Ansonsten haben wir bald eine Welt, wo dein Browser keine Webseiten mehr anzeigen kann, weil du einen #Adblocker installiert hast."

People have asked me why I bother to maintain #chromium for a distribution. "Just use the snap (or chrome) package!"
So here's the thing - until we wrest control of the web away from #Google, we're all stuck dealing with their products at least sometimes. Having alternatives (#DuckDuckGo vs Google search, for example) is important, but also having the ability to USE their products without ceding control of our systems and information (#searX vs Google search).
