Gvozdenov, Barcutean and Struhl, from the Harvard Medical School, created an artificial #chromosome containing 18 kilobases of random sequence, and studied its expression in yeast. It transcribed high but variable levels of #RNA molecules, which were less stable that their counterpart from the yeast genome. This supports the idea that most RNA polymerases in a cell are just generating noise. This was one of my most exciting reading this year!
