Originally used to crown #kings of #Scotland, it was retrieved from #WestminsterAbbey in 1950 by #GlasgowUniversity student nationalists. #Legend also calls it "#Jacob's pillow, on which the patriarch dreamed of #heaven, a story in the #Lectionary for 23 July 2023 (#Genesis 28:10-19) for which I've written an upcoming "Weekly Worship" note for the #ChurchOfScotland website.

#NSPCC and #Barnardo's say #England must drop the "reasonable chastisement" defence that allows parents and carers to hit children. The #UKGovernment refuses to alter the law.
The law has already been changed in #Wales and #Scotland. I was delighted to put the #ChurchOfScotland's case for abolishing the corporal punishment of children to a #ScottishParliament committee

It aims to increase "religious literacy" in government and dialogue with faith groups.
