#SeptembeRPG (1) A great TTRPG first played this year

#CitiesWithoutNumber is a new one. For close to 20 years I've been saying I want to play Shadowrun without using the Shadowun system since it's the worst system design I've ever encountered. And this one finally gives me what I'm after in an (OSR) style I enjoy and am familiar with.

I’m so excited to pilfer this for my current #Cy_Borg game and hopefully give the full game a run soon!

#RPGaDay2023 Complex & Simple RPG you play

Simple: #RISUS. I never GMd it as my GMing style is very gamist, but a friend loves to GM it and I do enjoy playing it.

Complex: #CitiesWithoutNumber. The basic procedures are simple, it's B/X (d20) combat and Traveller (2d6) skills. But it's a #CyberPunk setting, which means lots of moving parts for hacking, gunmodding, vehicle tuning, cyberware, etcetera, and everything together is a lot to grok.

I’m flipping through #CitiesWithoutNumber and boy howdy it’s great. I was worried that it would lean too much on D&D-style class fantasy, but nope, it’s effectively a classless system, yet still maintains B/X compatibility. The optional rules allow metahumanity and magic, which makes it a better Shadowrun than Shadowrun in my book.

I don't have any particular dice I prefer over others. For combat rolls or other super stressful situations, I usually prefer swingy results like a D20 gives, but for more methodical stuff like skill checks I prefer something with a more controlled distribution like 2D6 or even larger dice pools.

To no surprise I've been GMing a lot of #WorldsWithoutNumber and #CitiesWithoutNumber lately.

@Tim_Eagon @chgowiz @Yora all three (#SWN, #WWN, #CWN) have free versions and he’s looking into an open license for comfort. His own position is that RPGs are by nature open content so there’s no need for an #OGL, #CC, #ORC, #ELF but he understands the reassurance a license gives after all of this OGL hullabaloo. #StarsWithoutNumberRevised #WorldsWithoutNumber #CitiesWithoutNumber

Does anyone else make a fake newspaper/blog/website for your players to remind your players about what when on last session?

Christ, the advanced compound bow in #CitiesWithoutNumber is lethal.

Had to cancel our #CitiesWithoutNumber on sunday; rescheduled to yesterday evening, but last minute one of my players had an emergency. Since this would be the climax of a 5 session adventure so far, I wanted the full group there and canceled. Instead we talked about doing a smaller #Sword&Sorcery sandbox to run improv hen we don't have a full table for cyberpunk. Still undecided between using #HyperBorea or #BlackSwordHack, but we brainstormed a cool, doomed setting already.

Finally finished a #SoloRPG #TTRPG session report for my play around with the #CitiesWithoutNumber beta and new edition of #MythicGME.

It's a lot more narrative than I normally write, but I got carried away with it. 👍

Next couple of weeks I'll be focusing on finishing my #BX based #Homebrew world and campaign rules for my next long campaign. I also still got my regular one-shots at @Delieriumrpg and my on-going #WorldsWithoutNumber and #CitiesWithoutNumber campaigns too. Q1 ended with a bang, now looking forward to the rest of this year full of #TTRPG.

Perhaps the saddest thing rolling on all the #CitiesWithoutNumber dystopia tables is that whenever I come up with careless, inhumane game world aspects born out of faceless megacorp greed, a few weeks later the UK government tries to bring in very similar policies.

Typing out some #CitiesWithoutNumber #SoloRPG session reports and it’s leaned far further into a story format that I was aiming for. A bit indulgent for a game write up but I must admit I am really enjoying writing again.

Ah this is excellent. A new #CitiesWithoutNumber beta upload with added mission tables -the exact content I was about to need in my #SoloRPG plays.

Had a lot of fun today running a short #SoloRPG session of #CitiesWithoutNumber.

Was using the rough draft 0.12 beta and just roaming around my #Setting23 district, trying out some of the rules. By the end of the game I’d busted up some street punks and secured a mission. Looking forward to next session.
